New LSM 900 with Incubation

A new Zeiss LSM 900 with live cell incubation has replaced the Cell Discoverer 7.  This will have a widefield monochrome camera and LED excitation that can be combined with the sample carrier tiling set up to achieve the same results as the CD7. 

For those that are looking for a live cell confocal microscope features include:

  • 2 MA-PMTs, GaAsP detector, and ESID
  • Lasers: 405, 488, 561, 640
  • Objectives: 5x/0.16, 10x/0.45, 20x/0.8, 40x/1.3 oil, 40x/1.2 multi-immersion

Spinning Disk is Here

HCBI & SCRB are happy to announce the arrival of the Nikon CSU-W1 Spinning Disk Confocal Microscope.  

The microscope is a fully-loaded live cell imaging platform with dual disks (25 and 50 um) for low and high magnification imaging, dual Photometrics BSI cameras, full incubation, and a programable 405 nm photoconversion/optogenetics laser. This system is ready to image your live samples at top speed. Book a time with Alex or Heather to get trained on the system.

Office Hours Tuesdays & Thursdays

Ever since COVID, we feel that our interactions with all of you have decreased dramatically. Many of you we never see again after your initial training. Our job is to help you become better microscopists! This is a continual process that doesn’t end after one training session.

We invite you to stop by the HCBI conference room (ROOM 2058 C) from 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM Tuesdays or 11:00 AM -12:00 PM Thursdays. At least one of us will be there ready to discuss any of the following:

Lattice Lightsheet on loan from Zeiss

Zeiss has graciously loaned their lattice lighsheet to the HCBI until April 21st!  We are offering use of the system to registered HCBI users for free.  If you are interested, please email hcbi_imaging@fas.harvard.edu with answers to these questions:

2022-2023 Simmons Awards proposals will be accepted starting August 1st!

The Harvard Center for Biological Imaging is excited to announce a renewal of the Simmons Awards Program for all Harvard Graduate students for the 2022-2023 academic year. Thanks to a generous donation from Dr. and Mrs. Daniel Simmons, the HCBI will be offering grants to offset the costs of imaging in the facility. To apply, please complete this form (link will open at 9:00AM, Monday, August 1st) by Wednesday August 24th at 5:00 PM.
